GREEN ACRES, S.C. (WIS) - A man died in Newberry County over the weekend after an argument, stabbing and house fire.
The Newberry County Coroner’s Office on Monday identified the man as 31-year-old Ricardo Dentel Dewalt, from Silverstreet, according to Newberry County Coroner Laura Kneece.
Dewalt’s body was found at a house on Green Acres Road. Law enforcement and fire crews responded around 2 p.m. Sunday after a neighbor called and said the house was on fire, according to law enforcement in Newberry County.
In addition to this first call, deputies with the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) noted they received another call from the homeowner of the Green Acres Road home, who claimed Dewalt had stabbed him and his house had somehow caught fire.
Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster noted there were several kerosene and propane tanks on the property that could have contributed to the fire but emphasized the cause of the fire is still unknown.
The homeowner was taken to a local hospital with a stab wound that was not-life threatening, officials said.
Deputies with NCSO said there was an argument between Dewalt and the homeowner that escalated to a stabbing, before Dewalt went back into the building and the fire began.
Foster said the homeowner and Dewalt knew each other and that Dewalt stayed at the house on Green Acres Road sometimes.
